2018 Toyota Tundra Overview
2018 Toyota TundraThe 2018 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck available in Double and CrewMax cab layouts. Powered by a beefy V8 engine, the 2018 Tundra is available in eight models or trims, with standard two-wheel drive and available four-wheel drive. The Tundra is Toyota's largest pickup truck, coming in ahead of the medium-sized Tacoma in the brand's two-truck lineup. The most significant refresh was made in 2014. Since then, Toyota has made incremental changes. For 2018, the Toyota Safety Sense Package rolls out and includes forward collision warning and mitigation, lane departure warning, auto high-beam control and adaptive cruise control. The previously available regular cab model is no more.
The burly 2018 Toyota Tundra is marked by a powerful stance with an upright grille, wide hood, slab-sided body and ending with one of three different bed sizes. The overall look is strong for a vehicle with available off-road capabilities.
With room for up to five (six in select trims), it is the Crew Cab that delivers maximum passenger volume. Five can fit in comfort with no compromise to head, shoulder, waist or legroom. But if it is the long bed you want, measuring 2.33 meters, then the Double Cab is where you'll begin your search. Engines, Transmissions, Payload and Towing
Toyota offers customers a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 models with two V8 engine choices. The standard 4.6-liter engine delivers 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque. The other choice is a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Toyota pairs both engines with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Payload and towing are significant concerns for pickup truck owners. Fortunately, Toyota delivers by supplying a payload capacity ranging from 580 to 680 kg, depending on the model. Towing capacity ranges from 2,948 to 4,535 kg, also depending on the model selected. The latter number is attainable with a heavy-duty tow hitch receiver, 4- and 7-pin connectors, a supplemental transmission cooler, trailer brake controller and transmission fluid temperature gauge.
As with all truck models, standard and available equipment varies by trim and body style. For our example, we'll look at the 4x2 Double Cab SR model with the long bed. This model comes with halogen headlamps, fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, chrome front and rear bumpers, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, foldable side mirrors, a bed rail system and a removable locking tailgate.
Optional features are many and vary depending on body style and trim. These features include LED lights, integrated turn signal indicators, power-adjustable side mirrors, 20-inch wheels, puddle lamps and a spray-in bedliner
Inside, the 2018 Toyota Tundra delivers keyless entry, power windows and door locks, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, air conditioning, an 8-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, illuminated vanity mirrors and heated front seats.
